from westminster to häädemeeste
A long time ago, I decided to open Suurkivi Resort — a simple holiday destination offering a unique and memorable experience. At the time, life seemed to be pulling me in different directions, and to be honest, the idea of leaving Estonia and relocating to the countryside while still in my early twenties felt incredibly daunting.
So, I packed my bags and moved to London, where I found myself working in luxury retail. During that time, I met many fascinating and influential people, from celebrities to politicians.
My experience living in the Big Smoke was nothing short of spectacular, having been exposed to so many different cultures; lights, sounds… and most importantly I met so many incredible people on my journey, my London family.
During 2017 my family and I received the heart-breaking news that my father had passed away. However, I feel privileged and lucky that he believed in me enough to pass the responsibility and potential of Suurkivi onto me. With ownership of this land being traced back to my great grandfather who built his farmhouse here in 1920, I understandably have an overwhelming connection to the land and making this succeed. It is this connection with the land and nature, coupled with the incessant bustle of London, that encouraged me to reflect more deeply on my relationship with food and to become more conscious about where it comes from and what I am eating.
Suurkivi is still a work in progress and there are so many wonderful ideas that are slowly becoming a reality. Even though my dreams and ideas are big, I know that I will get there, as every dream has to start small so that it can eventually flourish. So please come and enjoy my hospitality with an open mind and help by being part of something truly special. For now I have five cabins in which to accommodate guests, all of which are named after birds you can see flying around Suurkivi. All of my guests who have stayed here have provided me with great feedback and have stressed how magical this place is and how difficult they found leaving as they knew they had to return to life away from the positive energy Suurkivi provides.
My mission is not to promote relocating to the countryside, but only to protect nature and make your carbon footprint smaller on this planet through consuming less, shopping smarter, recycling and reuse where we can. This is echoed with my philosophy of taking care of your body and quietening your mind ultimately enhancing our abilities to truly feel and listen.
Carried Estonia in my heart and after six years living abroad and travelling around the world I am back to continue with my unfinished chapter.
Suurkivi is still growing, and I’m always grateful for kind people who would like to support the journey - whether by sharing ideas, lending a helping hand, volunteering, or simply spreading the word. Together, we can keep creating something special and share this peaceful nature experience with others.
I am thankful for the experiences and challenges I have had in my life, and deeply grateful for the people who have supported and encouraged me along the way.
I can't wait to show you around this beautiful and peaceful place full of unfiltered smells of forest and the sea, freshly cracked branches and pine cones underfoot.
I hope you will enjoy your stay and see you soon in Suurkivi Nature Escape!
Love,
Tom x
